Tina’s Hip Replacement
“Less than a week, I stopped completely all painkillers.”
(0:00) When we were in Boston he put out a WhatsApp group and he said my mother-in-law needs an operation (0:05) I knew your parents had one recently and Max responded straight away totally recommend (0:10) this doctor. So my daughter said mom time to go and book an appointment immediately so we did.
(0:16) We got to the point where I couldn’t even put my socks on, couldn’t walk without going for a nice (0:21) long holiday to Boston.
I had to take ibuprofen all the time constantly every sort of four or (0:28) six hours to keep going.
And were you walking slowly? Yeah, obviously. And limping a bit? Yes, yeah. (0:35) Time to do something about it and this procedure sounded probably ideal because I didn’t want to (0:41) do anything drastic like cutting muscle, soft tissues. I did a lot of research. And who was (0:47) that? Was that someone that had a hip replacement? Yes, it was a footballer. Lee Chapman. (0:55) He used to play for, I think he played for, I think he played for lots of teams Manchester and England. Yeah, yeah.
So I saw you (1:00) within a week coming back and I got operated within a week after. So that was incredible (1:06) time life and fantastic. I didn’t really want to wait many more weeks and many more months and wait (1:12) for Christmas. I just wanted to get it done straight away.
I was astonished that after the (1:18) operation within three hours from the operation you all came in the doctor as well and they got (1:24) me out of bed with no crutches walking in the corridor.
So I can do the marathon in April then. (1:30) No, you don’t have to, you don’t have to, you technically could. (1:33)
I couldn’t believe it. I was so scared. Anyway, they said, no, don’t worry, we’ll support you. But (1:41) nobody gave me a hand. They were just all around me and catch me in case I would fall.
(1:45) There’s the arthritic hip. You can see the bones are pretty much touching there. Same sort of (1:50) disease as I have actually, quite a super lateral osteoarthritis. And then yeah, grade 4. We can (1:56) see the titanium shell, the ceramic head. I’ve got a liner in there, it’s four bits and there’s the stem.
(2:03) So I tried to just manage on paracetamol and ibuprofen and I did it successfully. (2:07) Less than a week, I stopped completely all painkillers and did a lot of ice therapy. (2:12) Definitely would recommend that. For me, that was my painkiller. I could start doing a lot of (2:19) exercise, you know, mobile exercise, walking, bending, follow the advice from the physiotherapist.
(2:25) Tina, I think you’re ready even this week to come to my gym.
So I wanted to get onto the bike, (2:31) one with the seat and we do some more exercises at the gym. And that’s what is my next step.
(2:37) But that’s what I wanted in terms of the new medical way of operating. And I definitely (2:46) recommend this doctor. Yeah, the recovery has been fantastic so far and I’m looking forward to (2:53) hopefully on Christmas Day, walking without any crutches confidently.
