Svetlana’s Hip Replacement Journey
(0:05) So both your hips replaced, one was done by us six weeks ago, the left one, and the right (0:11) one a few years ago. (0:13) Just tell us about the sort of different experiences that you’ve had from this approach and from (0:19) the first hip. (0:20) Right.
(0:21) Well, I’m amazed that this time is so much better. (0:26) And 10 years ago, when it was first done, I would be still in the bed. (0:34) So I’m so happy. (0:36) And I’m walking and more and more now freely with no crutches. (0:42) I did take a time to slowly recover. (0:48) So because I know the body takes time to recover slower. (0:52) So I was going with the body. (0:53) But I’m totally amazed and you, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Kley, you are amazing people and amazing (1:05) medical professionals. (1:07) You know what you’re doing, and I’m happy that I did find you.
(1:10) What do you get in the difference between this and the last one? (1:14) There’s a fundamental difference is that the approach is completely different. (1:18) Seeing her go through the first operation, the old fashioned way, and seeing her go through (1:24) this way, where the first operation, she spent a week in hospital. (1:30) And this way, the day that she came out, she was walking.
(1:34) After the day of the operation, I should say, she got up and she was walking. (1:39) I went home. (1:40) I came back to the hospital in the morning to see her and she was doing laps around the (1:46) corridors. And we went home. (1:48) That is phenomenal. (1:50) And I walked from the room. (1:52) I walked down to the car.
(1:54) What about the incisions? (1:56) The incisions, if you look at the old way, it’s like an L shape and it’s (2:03) about eight inches long.
(2:05) When you look at the new incision, it’s literally, what, a couple of inches long, is that? (2:11) Five, six centimetres. (2:13) Yeah. Amazing. (2:14) And it healed in two weeks. (2:18) Unheard of. (2:19)
And now we’re six weeks. (2:21) What are you like on the stairs and stuff and sleeping? (2:25) I sleep well. (2:26) I start sleeping more and more on my left side and stairs going up and down without (2:36) crutches. Very good. (2:37) Yeah.
(2:38) So you think, you know, obviously, there’s a kind of, we tell you it’s going to be a (2:42) Do you think it’s met the expectations of what we said would happen in terms of rapid (2:47) recovery? (2:48) Yes. (2:49) And beyond. (2:50) Brilliant. (2:51) And beyond.
(2:52) My honest opinion is that I actually, when I heard about this type of surgery, I was (2:58) going, okay, you take a lot of stuff with a pinch of salt. (3:03) Yeah. (3:03) And you say, okay, it’s going to be 50% quicker, maybe. (3:07) For me, it was that the way you do the operation is that you don’t cut through the (3:13) muscle. And that, and I know scar tissue, from my own personal experience, having (3:18) four back surgeries, scar tissue is a big issue. (3:21) And I’m thinking just that alone, I know, will make you heal faster. (3:25) But looking at the speed and looking where she is now to where she was in the same (3:30) period from the other one is chalk and cheese.
(3:34) When I find you on Instagram, just stumbled upon you, you know, I say to my husband, (3:39) uh-oh, we got something here. (3:42) And he said, okay. (3:44) I said, I got to go and do some serious investigation. (3:48) And I did. (3:49) And then I said, we need to make an appointment. (3:52) We need to make an appointment. (3:54) That’s brilliant. (3:54) Thank you so much.
