Susan’s Bilateral Hip Replacement
“The instant relief was just phenomenal! Got rid of the crutches instantly.”
(0:11) Susan has had both of her hips replaced and that was done together as a single (0:16) procedure. That was done five months ago? Yes. Your hips were quite sore for quite a (0:21) long time, weren’t they? Oh gosh, the pain was indescribable.
I couldn’t do anything. I had my life. I had reached a point where I had actually started to plan how I was going to make my exit.
(0:32) Oh G-d, well, anyway, you haven’t done that, thank God. You’re smiling, you’re happy and (0:36) next you said the pain was like 12 out of 10 all the time. Oh, yes.
I had to have (0:41) somebody with me all the time. I was back and forth to the doctors, I’d go backwards (0:46) and forwards to the hospital, nobody wanted to touch me. Because you’re slightly overweight, (0:50) it was, oh no, we can’t do you.
We’d rather do bariatric surgery on you (0:55) instead and do you when you’ve lost the weight. And were you surprised then that we agreed (0:59) to do them both at the same time? I was surprised. I was in disbelief, actually.
Right up until (1:05) the actual day of surgery, I kept thinking, I’m sure they’re going to call up and cancel, (1:09) I’m sure they’ve got this wrong and they’re going to cancel. So to actually get there (1:14) in hospital and have it done, to wake up and the instant relief was just phenomenal. And (1:20) then to be able to get out of bed and walk around hours after the surgery was something (1:27) I hadn’t even dreamt of doing.
And how long did you stay in for, when we did both? I stayed (1:32) in overnight and then I was out the following morning. Got rid of the crutches instantly. (1:36) Really? Yeah, yeah.
And now you walk a couple of miles? Yeah, I can stand, I cooked Christmas (1:43) dinner, I do a lot of voluntary work and I cook for them. Is it kind of what you were (1:47) hoping for, has it beaten your expectations? Oh it’s beaten my expectations, it’s much, (1:52) much more than I could ever have hoped for. I can’t say it enough, you’ve given me my (1:55) life back, you really have.
I can do things and just be pain free. To wake up in the morning (2:01) and think, yeah it’s morning, rather than here we go again. You’re just so kind to say those things, (2:07) thanks so much.
