Mr. Green’s Hip Placement Journey
“It was fabulous! I didn’t suffer any pain. I would recommend it anybody.”
(0:06) Mr. Green, obviously he still has one sore hip, but he has that, that one’s been replaced (0:11) on the left side. So that was eight weeks ago. Yes. And how was the experience? It was (0:17) fabulous.
The operation itself, I felt better immediately on waking up and the experience (0:26) just got better. I didn’t suffer any pain, so it was a good thing for me.
And what did (0:34) you make of coming into hospital? Was it scary? I was a little bit apprehensive, but having (0:41) been through it before, I knew that this one was going to be better. And I knew from our (0:47) discussions, I knew that my recovery was going to be better. When did you get that first (0:51) one done? I think it was, it was around about 10 or 11 years.
And how, how does it compare (0:56) to what we’ve done compared to? Well, if I remember correctly, I remember waking up, (1:01) similar situation. I knew that it was better, but I had the, the big scar down the side (1:10) with lots of staples in and a lot of damage to the muscles. So the, the, the actual physiotherapy (1:16) was a lot tougher the first time around.
How long were you in hospital for the first time? I think (1:21) it was three nights. And this time? One night. And, and, and what about that kind of initial (1:27) recovery? Was it, was it easy for you the first time or? It, it was quite long. I think I had three (1:33) months off work, so it was relaxed. But it was quite long. And I said, as I said earlier, the (1:41) physiotherapy was quite painful.
Actually getting, doing the leg lifts off the floor was quite tough.
So this has been a quicker recovery for you? Much, yeah, much. And I think I was probably still walking with at least one crutch at this stage with the first one. At eight weeks? Yeah. And when did you stop using crutches this time around? I probably went from crutches about four weeks and then I went to a single stick for a couple of weeks. (2:14) I’ve been driving since four weeks with no issues at all.I felt confident in getting my foot from one pedal to the other.
And how far can you walk on it now? Miles. What, at eight weeks you’re walking miles around? Yeah. And I had no, I had no pain at all in the joint or in the work you did. I have a couple of muscles that are still a bit tender.
And you were surprised by the size of the incision, was that? It was wonderfully small, yes. Yeah, I, (2:44) Everyone and everyone that has seen it has said how tidy it is and it’s a lovely job. (2:49) So you’d say for you it’s been a good decision? (2:51) Absolutely. I wouldn’t go back on it.
I’d recommend it to anybody.
