Ceri – Hip Replacement

Ceri’s Full Recovery Post Hip Replacement Surgery

Ceri is a high profile hairdresser and is a cross fit model. She underwent right total hip replacement by Dr Kristian Kley who is world renowned for using minimally invasive anterolateral approach (OCM) for his procedure.

Ceri is back at work, 4 weeks post her surgery. She is walking 6-7 miles per day and has started her strength training also.

Ceri describes her experience with Prof Adrian Wilson and Dr. Kristian Kley:

(0:04) What have you been through today then? (0:06) I’ve had my right hip replaced. (0:08) And that was done when? (0:09) I think 11am. (0:11) And now it is? (0:13) 10 to 6. (0:15) Ok, so let’s say it’s 6 hours ago.

(0:18) Ok, so what are you able to do right now already? (0:22) Shall I get up? (0:23) Can you move your legs both? (0:27) Yes, I can bend my knees, I can lift the legs. (0:29) Wiggle my toes. (0:31) Perfect, so if you stand up now.

(0:34) Ok, can you show us how you walk? (0:42) And the other way round again. (0:45) Ok, so are you sure you have had your hip replaced? (0:47) I’m not sure actually, I think I need an x-ray for proof. (0:51) Ok, are you happy? (0:52) Yeah, I’m very happy.

(0:52) I have a knee injury. (0:55) It’s a meniscus tear which I felt was getting worse and worse. (1:00) And I was recommended Professor Wilson by numerous clients of mine.

(1:06) And he quickly diagnosed that the knee wasn’t the issue and that I had a hip problem. (1:14) Which was a bit of a shock. (1:17) Adrian was actually amazing because I’d seen numerous consultants before, two actually, (1:25) who hadn’t picked this up. (1:27) And it took Adrian about 30 seconds to work this out.

(1:32) Although at that point my main aim was to be pain free. (1:37) To be able to get back to leading the lifestyle that I lead. (1:44) Which is very active, very sporty. (1:48) I stand all day at work. (1:51) I train a lot. (1:52) I compete at CrossFit. (1:54) I ride horses. (1:56) I cycle a lot. (1:58) I have a dog that needs a lot of walking. (2:01) And so my main concern was being pain free and also being able to get back to my lifestyle ASAP.

(2:10) The surgery went well. (2:12) I believe it was 30 minutes or so. (2:16) I mean just crazy how fast Kristian can operate. (2:21) The whole team that they put together were fantastic. (2:25) That evening I walked on my hip pain free. (2:29) And I came home the next day. (2:31) I was able to return to work at the salon on week four.

(2:38) And it feels like nothing happened. (2:43) And it’s quite extraordinary. (2:45) I have no pain. (2:47) No restrictions in movement. (2:51) I train every day. (2:53) I walk two or three hours a day. (2:57) I cycle. (2:58) I ride horses. (2:59) I’m on my feet eight or nine hours, six days a week. (3:05) And it’s just amazing. (3:07) I have absolutely no pain, no stiffness. (3:12) I can move my leg. (3:16) I can rotate my leg internally, externally. (3:20) Which I haven’t been able to do for years. (3:23) And best of all, I’m pain free. (3:26) I would say 100% pain free.

(3:28) I don’t even notice any difference between the implanted hip and my natural hip. (3:36) Adrian and Kristian were amazing from day one. (3:43) I mean Adrian was so quick at diagnosing the problem. (3:49) And setting up pretty much the whole journey for my surgery and aftercare. (3:57) Which I’m really grateful for.

(4:00) Kristian is obviously some kind of genius when it comes to orthopaedic surgery. (4:07) I believe my operation was less than 30 minutes. (4:11) My scar is six centimetres.

(4:15) It’s barely visible. (4:17) And the hip just feels absolutely perfect. (4:21) My leg length is the same again.

(4:23) Because I think there was a one centimetre difference before surgery. (4:28) And overall I am absolutely thrilled.

(4:32) And I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I had to. (4:35) So yeah, I’m definitely absolutely thrilled with the results. (4:40) And anyone thinking of having hip surgery, then just don’t delay. (4:46) It’s a really, really successful procedure. (4:52) And you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. (4:55) So I would definitely recommend Adrian and Kristian. (4:59) And I’m very grateful. Thank you.
