Caroline’s Hip Replacement Journey
(0:06) So Caroline, you have had a hip replacement with us. I have. And how was the experience (0:10) last time? Absolutely amazing.
In what way? And everyone I knew was amazed at how quickly (0:16) I was up and about, how little, you know, I didn’t have to worry about all the things (0:21) you read about, about dislocating the hip because you can’t put your leg up or bend down. It (0:27) was honestly remarkable.
And how much pain were you in afterwards? Very little. I had (0:32) wonderful medication which I took regularly, you know, I was prescribed it for seven days (0:37) or whatever it was and it was fine.
And in terms of, I mean, we said it was like, you (0:43) know, it’s a rapid recovery. Did you feel like you recovered quickly? Yes, I did. That’s (0:47) hence I’ve come back. Yeah, because we need to do the other side of course.
And what about, (0:51) you said something interesting a minute ago about you were a week down the line.
What (0:55) were people saying to you? Well, they said, well, I thought you were going to have a new (0:59) hip. And I said, yes, I’ve had it. I’ve had a new hip. You know, I mean, their experience (1:04) with people with new hips was that they’re much, you know, walking with crutches or sticks (1:09) and it’s all much more laboured, whereas I was, you know, walking. I think, I don’t think (1:14) I had a, maybe I went out with a stick, but I don’t think I used a stick much.
Did you (1:18) use any crutches at all? No. Not at all? I never used crutches, no. And you just mentioned (1:23) that you were at home by yourself. Did you cope okay after? I did cope okay. I have a sister (1:27) two doors down, but I live, and I don’t actually have any stairs, so I’m lucky. But no, I was (1:32) absolutely fine. And you’ve been recommending it to people. I have been recommending it (1:37) to people.
