“It saved my life. I am really happy!”
(0:06) Here’s the x-ray showing the new hip and this is what we put in, titanium shell and plastic (0:15) and then ceramic head and stem. So, Carol, it’s six weeks since we did the surgery, what’s (0:25) the experience been like?
Brilliant, brilliant. I mean I had to travel two and a half hours home (0:32) the next day, which I was worried about, absolutely fine. In fact, my husband said I got in the car (0:37) better than I had before the op, which I felt I did anyway. I got home and settled in the chair (0:45) and I was sitting in a normal chair, which I was worried about, didn’t know if I’d be able to sit (0:50) Within a fortnight, I was able to walk around and go out.
I could drive my car, which was brilliant, (0:59) that gave me a bit more freedom to go and get my hair done and, you know, I don’t think my hairdresser (1:03) could believe it when I said I was coming to have it done driving. I was taking for a walk, Christmas (1:07) Day we went, which was four weeks, was it four weeks? Yeah, four weeks post-op. Christmas Day we went (1:13) to the local park, which is a bit flatter than where I live. I just sort of did circles of a (1:20) sort of exercise route with my dog, which was brilliant, best Christmas present ever.
(1:28) Yeah, it’s just been amazing, you know, I really, for me, I think it saved my life. I think I was (1:34) struggling a lot mentally beforehand and I was waiting a long time with the NHS trying to get (1:45) treatment. How much pain were you in before? It was really bad.
I was on a high level of (1:54) painkiller, a very strong painkiller and I was on the prescription painkiller and I was on the (1:59) maximum dose and it still wasn’t taking away the pain. So straight away after the op the difference (2:06) was just amazing and within a few days I was, I mean, straight away I was able to have a shower (2:13) on my own and I’ve made loads of plans because I’ve sort of researched it, so I’ve got a perching (2:18) chair in the wet room and I was all ready for, you know, needing from with my husband. I didn’t, (2:24) you know, I was independent straight away.
So yeah, it’s just made a huge difference and (2:31) I’ve actually got hope now. I’ve just booked a holiday with a friend for the end of March and (2:36) it’ll be the first time in nearly three years that I’ve been out of, you know, my own sort of hometown (2:42) really because I’ve just not gone anywhere or done anything. Would you recommend this to (2:49) other people? I would definitely recommend this to other people.
There was virtually (2:53) no pain in my view to what I had before. I’m really happy it’s made a huge difference (2:59) and I’m just glad I saw the little advert which popped up I think on social media (3:05) else I’d still be, well I don’t know where I would be now, but I’d still be waiting to see it.
