Surgeon Testimonial from Dr Arj Imbuldeniya
Not often I’m blown away but watching Professor Adrian Wilson and Dr. Kristian Kley today was one of those days. Consultants operating together, sharing expertise, a really hardworking, well drilled, efficient team, lean operating trays, saw 5 major cases done by 2pm at Bupa Cromwell.
I saw a well planned and executed hip replacement performed in 20 mins on a patient with a BMI >50 utilising the intermuscular Rottinger approach. Patient was walking in her room in front of me 2 hours later, no aids, minimal pain, no LIA or regional blocks used.
I’ve now watched this approach in theatres on 3 occasions in 2 different countries and believe it’s a serious alternative to more traditional ways of performing hip replacement. No special table needed, nor intraop X rays unless you want them. Definitely easier with 2 assistants which I know is not always easy to organise.
Lots to think about how to translate this to my own patients, especially those waiting so terribly long on my NHS list with poor theatre productivity and lack of elective beds.
Great also as a Consultant to just get out and see other colleagues in action, so much more valuable now to me than when I was a registrar.
