Surgeon Testimonial from Dr Alessandro Gallese
0:00) I am Alessandro Gallese, a fourth year resident in orthopaedic surgery at Humanitas Research Hospital (0:05) in Milan. I am currently undertaking a six-month fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty (0:10) and osteotomies around the knee under the mentorship of Dr. Kristian Kley in Hanover. (0:16) Over the past few months, Kristian has spent a significant amount of time teaching me his (0:20) modified Rottinger approach to the hip.
Under his guidance, I have been able to perform around 30 (0:26) total hip arthroplasties with this technique. I must say it’s a truly innovative and safe procedure, (0:32) avoiding both posterior structures, such as the sciatic nerve, and anterior structures, (0:36) such as the femoral vessels. Moreover, it is a truly muscle sparing procedure, (0:42) allowing patients to walk without crutches just a few hours after surgery.
The rate of major (0:47) complications, such as infections and dislocations, is also pretty close to zero. Through Dr. Kley, (0:54) I also had the privilege to travel to London, where I met Professor Adrian Wilson and Dr. (0:59) Ronald van Heerwarden. Adrian is a truly kind person and a great knee surgeon, specialising (1:05) in procedures such as all-inside ACL reconstruction, MPFL reconstruction, and ACL repair, procedures (1:12) he has contributed to develop over the past few years.
So far, this fellowship has been an amazing (1:18) experience, both professionally and personally, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.
