Abhinav Gulihar

SHOULDER, ELBOW & HAND SPECIALIST

Abhinav Gulihar - consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions

I’m Mr Abhinav (Abhi) Gulihar, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions. My focus is on restoring comfortable, confident movement, enabling patients to return to their daily routines, work and leisure with confidence.

With specialist upper-limb training across leading centres in the UK, Europe and the USA, I have developed expertise in arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery, joint preservation, tendon and ligament reconstruction, trauma management and complex revision procedures. I believe that most upper-limb conditions can be managed effectively with non-surgical treatment as the first line of care. But where surgery is required, I use minimally invasive techniques to reduce discomfort and support a smoother, faster recovery.

My work extends into research, academic publication and surgical education, with 20+ published works in peer-reviewed papers and regular presentations at national and international meetings. I’m focused on evolving surgical techniques and nurturing upcoming talent in upper-limb surgery through specialist training and mentorship.

I stay committed to thoughtful, evidence-based care, continued learning and, above all, helping each patient move freely, stay active and embrace life without limitation.

Specialist Areas

  • Shoulder: instability, dislocations, rotator-cuff repair, arthroscopy, shoulder replacement and resurfacing, acromio-clavicular (AC) joint problems.
  • Elbow: arthroscopic key-hole surgery, ligament injuries, stiffness, trauma and arthritis.
  • Wrist & Hand: carpal tunnel syndrome, base-of-thumb arthritis (trapeziectomy), ganglions/cysts, Dupuytren’s disease, hand fractures and tendon/ligament injuries.
  • Upper-limb trauma & fractures: clavicle/collar-bone fractures, proximal humerus fractures, radial-head fractures, wrist fractures.
  • Sports and over-use injuries: enabling return to sport/work via minimally-invasive techniques and early mobilisation.

My goal is to make upper-limb treatment safer, less invasive and more effective, so patients regain movement and quality of life faster.

A patient-first approach

My priority is putting your needs at the centre of every decision. From your first consultation through to full recovery, I commit to providing honest guidance and caring support.

I listen to your concerns, understand your goals and tailor treatment plans accordingly. Non-surgical options are considered first where appropriate, and surgery is discussed only when it clearly offers benefit.

When surgery is needed, I adopt modern, arthroscopic (“key-hole”) techniques where suitable — reducing discomfort and helping you return to normal activities sooner.

My aim is not simply to treat your condition, but to restore your confidence and enable you to re-engage in the things you value most.
